IPSN Extreme Sensing Competition 2007

In April of 2007, Mark Feldmeier, Manas Mittal, Alyssa Wright and I entered the IPSN Extreme Sensing Competition.

The goal of the IPSN competition was to accurately detect the number of people traveling through a one-hundred square foot region, using no more than five pixels of sensing data, and use no more than twelve inches of cable. Our solution was to construct a 10' x 10' wooden platform, and use four load sensors to collect measurements from the platform as conference attendees walked across it. We used four laptops at each sensing point to collect and filter the data before merging the results and sending the data to the competition server.

This system was built as the final project for MAS.836 in the Spring of 2007.
